Intensive Introspective Therapy

“Intensive Introspective Therapy” is a method of self-observation developed by Late Yoshimoto Isshin and others in the 1940s. It help people attain “Enlightenment” .

“Intensive Introspection; 7 days and 6 nights” at the Inrospection Training Center.

“Three Items of Introspection”: “What I have received from others,” “What I have given back to others,” and “What I have caused trouble to others,” examining oneself in relation to one’s mother, father, siblings, and teachers, etc., one by one.

From 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., “Introspection sparing every minute,” even when using the restroom or taking a bath. During this time, the interviewee repeats the interview every 1-2 hours, 8-10 times/day, for about 5 minutes.

Not run away from the anxieties and anguish of life, not look away from them, but calm down and awaken to the “Reality of life”. By maintaining an attitude of “Indifference,” so to speak, toward wealth, honor, social status, and death that are external to oneself, one can attain “Freedom” and “Peace of mind”.

After examining the “Three Items of Introspection”, you may be able to get closer to that by examining “Lies and Stealing”. Like the Three Introspective Items, it is a thorough examination of “Lies and Stealing” one has committed from birth to the present. The late Ishin Yoshimoto stated that the essence of Introspection lies in the awareness of Guilt and Impermanence, and that to question one’s Sins is to question one’s own Mortality. This leads to “enlightenment”, which is the goal of Introspection.
